Cornelius McKown (Mack) Dyke, M.D.

Dr. Dyke received his AB degree from Duke University, Trinity College and his M.D. degree from Duke University School of Medicine. After a year at Harefield Hospital in London as a 43rd Everts Graham Memorial Traveling Fellow and Senior Registrar, Dr. Dyke began his General Surgery training at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. After completing General Surgery, he completed his training in Cardiothoracic Surgery also at the Medical College of Virginia where he was a Fellow in Cardiothoraic Surgery. His first appointment was Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In this capacity, Dr. Dyke not only maintained a very active surgical schedule but also initiated a very active research program in cardiac angiogenesis. He came to Charlotte in March 1998 as an attending Surgeon and maintains responsibility for the Heart Surgical Program at Gaston Memorial Hospital. His interest in Cardiac Surgical Research initiated his desire to start a research program which would investigate new procedures which may alleviate cardiac circulatory problems in patients who were not surgical candidates. He was also interested in being a part of an active research laboratory which works side by side with an active surgical program. Dr. Dyke's expertise and interests has made a perfect match with Carolinas Heart Institute and the Heineman Medical Research Laboratories.
