Alexander (Alex) Fokin, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Fokin received his M.D. degree from Saint Petersburg Pediatric Medical Academy in Russia in 1977 and his Ph.D. from the same institution in 1987. He completed his surgical training in thoracic surgery at the Medical Academy for Postgraduate Education and received his training in pediatric surgery at the Pediatric Medical Academy, both also in Saint Petersburg. From 1985 to 1994, Dr. Fokin worked as an Assistant Professor at Saint Petersburg Pediatric Medical Academy, being involved in every-day surgery as well as research. In 1994 Dr. Fokin moved to Charlotte and saw his career grow from the position of Senior Clinical Investigator to Associate Director, Heineman Medical Research Laboratories. Being Director of Surgical Research for the laboratories, Dr. Fokin's experience and interest in the fields of Myocardial Revascularization, Cardiac Preservation, Myocardial Reperfusion Injury, and Lymphology allows him to contribute to many research projects.
