Geoffrey G. Gong, M.D.

Research Associate, Heineman Medical Research Laboratory. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Shanghai Second Medical University, China in 1982. After receiving resident training, he became an attending cardiac surgeon in Xin Hua Hospital, Shanghai in 1989. In the same year he obtained an MS in pediatrics based on the research of cell-mediated immunity during cardiopulmonary bypass. In 1992 he joined the department of cardiothoracic surgery at Yale Medical School, CT, as a research fellow, where he worked on assisted circulation and heart preservation. He joined Heineman Medical Research Laboratory in 1993. His research interests are ischemia/reperfusion injury, heat shock protein, preconditioning, apoptosis, acid-base balance and aortic valve.
