Thomas N. (Tom) Masters, Ph.D.

Dr. Masters received his BS degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois and his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Physiology from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago. After an NIH postdoctorate Fellowship in Cardiac Metabolism and Pharmacology at the Chicago Medical School, Dr. Masters came to Charlotte as Director of Research, Heineman Medical Research Laboratories. He has been very active in the American Heart Association serving as President of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Division and President of the North Carolina Affiliate. His present research interest in Cardiac Preservation, Myocardial Reperfusion Injury, Myocardial Apoptosis and Preservation provide an excellent foundation for implementing a new research initiative into gene expression/tissue engineering required for myocardial angiogenesis.
