Myocardial Ischemia / Reperfusion Injury

The results of these studies have determined through apoptosis and the various breakdown products associated with his reaction, that irreversible muscle damage is initiated during the ischemic phase of myocardial blood flow cessation and manifested during the reperfusion phase.

This work was the first to show these very exciting results. Although working closely with collaborators in Germany, the time delay in obtaining results and the pursuit of different experimental objectives necessitates our being able to perform the analysis in our laboratory.
